Epicure
Almost every celebrity visiting San Francisco drops by this popular restaurant, still beautiful and busy after eight years. Indeed, as you walk in, it is as if you are entering an Asian museum. Tommy Toy’s is a special-occasion restaurant for fine dining. Most regulars refuse a menu, and many newcomers let the helpful waiters make suggestions or order for them.
The special Signature Dinner has not seen a price increase in at least three years. Lunches are reasonable, especially the Four Course Luncheon with a glass of wine, a budget-friendly $11.95. Lobster Chow Mein ($14.95) is a well-prepared and substantial lunch entree. The $49 Signature Dinner is a bargain. This is a recommended menu for first-timers. Seafood Bisque in Coconut Crowned with Puff Pastry is a hearty, medium-thick soup filled with scallops, shrimp, sliced mushroom and bamboo shoots. Fresh Maine Lobster is shelled and sauteed with pine nuts and slivers of fresh mushrooms, served with a light peppercorn sauce on a bed of angel hair crystal noodles. Peking Duck with lotus buns served tableside is exquisite. The final entree is Wok Charred Medallion of Beef, with a small bowl of Four Flavors Fried Rice. Peach Mousse is an impressive end to the meal. Excellent, extensive wine list.
